We all sometimes run out of money before we run out of the week. But that doesn’t mean we don’t want to enjoy a night out with our significant other or friend.
If you’re looking for cheap date ideas in Downtown Ocala this summer, you’ve come to the right place. Check out these 10 ideas and comment below if you have more ideas to share.
1. Cheap Date Night at the Movies
This is one of the best deals in town. For $16 on a Tuesday night, you and your date or friend can see a movie at the historic Marion Theatre and enjoy popcorn and soda, too. Yes, all that for only $16. It’s just $12 if you go to a matinee showing before 6 p.m. Every Tuesday is Customer Appreciation Day with free small popcorn and soda with each movie ticket purchase. This makes dinner and a movie even more affordable.
2. Take a stroll in Tuscawilla Park
Head to Tuscawilla Park for an afternoon stroll, hand in hand, or a Saturday morning walk. You’ll love walking around the big lake at this beautiful park. If it gets too hot, stop beneath the shade of one of the big trees and sit and chat a bit. Be sure to check out the cool outdoor sculpture exhibit. Or enjoy the free yoga from 2-3 p.m. each Sunday in the park.
3. Ocala Farm Market
The parking lot across from Ocala’s Downtown Square turns into the Ocala Farm Market every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free, but you’re likely to want to buy something with more than 50 vendors offering fresh produce, plants and flowers, fashions, jewelry, candle, soaps and so much more. You two can split a fresh cinnamon roll or pastry, or maybe some boiled peanuts, kettle corn or an Italian Ice .
4. Late Night Dessert
Head to Ocala’s Melting Pot after 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and enjoy half price on chocolate fondue! It’s the perfect time for a late night date at the Melting Pot. And what could be more romantic than fondue?
5. Free Salsa Lessons
Spice things up in your life with free salsa lessons at the Courtyard on Broadway. Now we’re talking! The free lessons are offered the first and third Wednesday of each month. Free introductory lesson!
6. Create Your Own Pi at Pi
Everyone loves the pizza pi at Pi on Broadway. Enjoy a “Create Your Own Pi” with your two favorite toppings for only $7 every Tuesday at Pi. With the money you save on the great pizza, maybe you can afford a craft beer or two.
7. Resale Store Shopping
This is a fun date activity. Head to South Magnolia Avenue one Saturday afternoon and enjoy some shopping at a few of our resale shops. Check out The White Elephant and Tumbleweed of Ocala, located right next door to each other. Both sell furniture and more and you’re sure to enjoy browsing through both shops. And just up the block is Brother’s Keeper Thrift Store. Who knows what treasure you may find at one of these shops that can be a joint painting or repurposing project the two of you can work on together. The promise of more time together? We call that a bonus.
8. Five Dollar Challenge
For $5 or less you can enjoy some treats and people watching on Ocala’s Downtown Square. That will buy you two regular coffees at Starbucks, or two chocolate covered jumbo pretzel rods and more at Ocala’s Chocolates and Confections. You don’t have to spend a lot to enjoy some time together.
9. Art Gallery Hopping
While Downtown Ocala has quite a few art galleries, most are only open during the day so this would have to be a daytime date. Check out the monthly exhibit at Brick City Center for the Arts, or the artists on display at Artist Alley, City Hall or the City’s Citizen Service Center on Southeast Third Street.
